Earth Day shared

The destiny of humans cannot be separated
from the destiny of Earth.

At the light of day- Sunday’s door

To have lived through the day of silent waiting. No way to tend to their beloved- no work to be done on the Sabbath. The minutes felt like hours, the hours days.

As soon as the sun’s light crested over the horizon these women set out to cleanse his body with fragrant oils and their tears. Mary Magdalene arrived ahead of the others… imagine her surprise to find the tomb was empty.

A path of Darkness in Search of Light — Friday’s Door

sometimes the path goes dark and silent.
do we turn and run… or push ahead seeking light on the other side?

Present to each moment – Thursday’s door

The light shifts from warm to cool.
Standing before an open doorway, we know the choice has been made and made again.
Can any one prepare for what a day might bring?
Maybe but it is always challenging to plan for how it will feel and the consequences at the day’s end.
May we walk this day present to each moment.

Prayers for peace… Monday’s Door

Holy Week is filled with stories. How easy it can be to think these are stories from long ago.
The olive tree, the olive branch… symbols of peace – then and now.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, pray for the peace of Syria… pray for peace.

Peace for the earth and its creatures

Peace for the earth and its creatures
peace for the world and its peoples
peace for our fathers
peace for our mothers
peace for our brothers and sisters.
The peace of heaven’s vastness
the peace of ocean depths
the peace of earth’s stillness

The eve of Holy Week

We are on the edge of Holy Week – a week in the Christian tradition filled with many doorways and transitions. If this is a journey you take each year, notice all of the doors of this coming week. Consider the choices made each day, each hour — which thresholds would be entered by Jesus and all the people surrounding him.

Doorways and thresholds- facing risk and grace.
